Friday Foodies is an elective program where Year 6/7 students assist in the preparation of a delicious and nutritious 2-course lunch for fellow students and staff. Meals are based on fresh, seasonal produce that is primarily sourced from either our own Veggie Patch or local growers, thus reinforcing healthy eating principles as well as eating food with low embodied “food miles”, an important sustainable living concept.
The program encourages healthy eating choices and increases students’ exposure to fresh produce. Year 6/7 students gain valuable skills associated with the selection and preparation of fresh, seasonal produce.
Lobethal Primary School’s commitment to improving the sustainability of its practices is evident in its purchase of china crockery and stainless steel cutlery for its Friday Foodies program, doing away with the disposable plates and crockery that were used just a short time ago.
