WHAT IS OSHC?

OSHC means Outside School Hours Care.

The OSHC service was introduced as a joint initiative of both local primary schools to provide a much needed care service for primary school aged children. 

Still a very young program it has a great deal to offer local families, safe and homely environment activities, cooking, fun place for children to meet new friends, art and craft, games, sport and homework.  Whenever possible children are encouraged to participate in the cooking of light snacks for afternoon tea, care of 'Rockie' the pet guinea pig and planning of activities.

WHO CAN USE OSHC?

OSHC is not just for children whose parents are at work or studying.  Any child aged between 5 and 14 (Primary School Children only) can use our care service and is only subject to 'priority of access' in the event that we reach our licensed number twenty of children each night.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Cost of care varies for each family; this is determined by their Childcare rebate entitlement.  Every family is entitled to childcare rebate based on their family income; rebate percentages start at a minimum of 16%.   The Family Assistance Office can help you to apply for the rebate by simply phoning them on

Changes to OSHC Fee Structure

The Lobethal OSHC program is still a very young and small service.  Costs involved in providing a good quality care service are high, staffing costs, food, and resources all essential in providing this care.  Larger programs can disperse these costs more easily with greater incoming fees.  Such a small program does not have this benefit with parent contributions through fees be much lower than our bigger cousins.  How do we make it work?  Fortunately Government subsidies can help to cover most of the shortfall; however this doesn’t cover all of the operational costs.  To provide a successful and viable program we need to maintain and increase the number of children using the service.  Local community support will make the difference.  To encourage more families to use our program the committee has adjusted fees to be comparative to neighbouring programs.

As result an improved fees structure has been developed and will commence from week 6 term 2 2005.  A full break down of the fees and examples of costs using varying Childcare rebates is included in this issue and will be available on the school notice board.
